Y Join the Cross Country Cooking Craze!
Do you have friends or family that live in another town, state, or even country? If you do, you are not alone. Countless people around the world have to deal with the limits on social interactions due to distance. You can't just stop by, meet up for lunch, or get together on the weekend when there are hundreds or thousands of miles in between.
Phone calls and e-mails are the main sources of social interaction for long-distancers, but these can hinder daily activities and do not work well if you are too tired after a long day, too busy, or just don't have anything to really talk about.
Cooking is something you must do every day, but it doesn't have to be a chore. It can be fun to try out new recipes, and cooking a new meal is a great excuse to invite company over. Cooking together has given us a fun and creative way to socialize and spend time together. Once a month or every other month we can experience a new cooking challenge together, have family members that live nearby over to join in the fun (they all look forward to our "interesting" new recipes), and have an excuse to chat on the phone while we cook. In the day or two following the event we share pictures and ideas about the new recipes and update the website.
We welcome any one to join in the fun! All you need is a long-distance buddy, a kitchen, a phone (preferably with a hands-free headset; its much easier to cook with two hands rather than one), a camera, and a computer to share the pictures on. We will post the details of our upcoming events here on the website. If you choose to follow along, just send us pictures of your meal and event, and we'll post them on the site!
